SUSTAINABLE SOURCING · DUE DILIGENCE
Sustainable clothing manufacturer in Turkey: a due-diligence checklist for fashion brands
A sustainable clothing manufacturer should be assessed through the product you plan to make, not through a broad label alone. This checklist helps fashion teams ask for relevant evidence, review a real sample and keep every production decision connected to the collection in front of them.
Define the product before evaluating the supplier
Begin with the garment, wearer, destination market and commercial purpose. State the styles, size range, material direction, construction, colourways, trims, labels and packaging that belong to the programme. A clear brief gives the manufacturer a concrete product to assess instead of an abstract request for a sustainable option.
It also keeps the buyer's criteria useful. The relevant questions for a jersey T-shirt, woven overshirt, baby bodysuit and fleece layer are not identical, so the product specification should guide the sourcing conversation from the first enquiry.
Ask what can be documented for this order
Material terms, certification names and finished-garment claims should not be treated as interchangeable. Before approving a product page, label or hangtag, ask what evidence applies to the selected materials, processing route and supply-chain scope for the specific order.
Record the proposed customer-facing wording alongside the supporting information in the product file. This allows product, sourcing and marketing teams to work from the same evidence rather than turning a broad sustainability statement into a claim that cannot be checked against the finished item.
Evaluate the sample as a complete product
A fabric swatch is useful, but it does not show how a material performs in the intended garment. Review a made sample for measurements, fit, fabric hand feel, seam appearance, construction, recovery where relevant, artwork, labels and packaging.
Keep the approved sample with the final measurement table, component references and bill of materials. That approval set becomes a practical record of what the brand reviewed and a clearer basis for later colourways or repeat programmes.
Check how decisions and changes are controlled
A responsible production discussion needs a clear way to manage changes. Identify who can approve fabric alternatives, measurement updates, artwork revisions and branded components, then capture the final decision against a named file, sample or specification point.
This does not require a complicated process. It requires a shared record that prevents an informal email comment or an outdated attachment from becoming the production reference. Clear approvals protect both the buyer and the product.
Send a due-diligence enquiry, not a generic question
Instead of asking only whether a factory is sustainable, send the product brief and identify the evidence you need to review. Include the proposed material direction, any planned product claims, reference images or tech pack, quantities by variation, branding details and destination market.
Konsey Organic can review a buyer's product documentation and reference samples to identify the next manufacturing questions for the programme. For related preparation, use our organic cotton fabric sourcing checklist and private-label RFQ guide before contacting a manufacturer.

FAQ
Questions buyers ask
What should a sustainable manufacturing enquiry include?+
Include a product brief, fabric direction, intended customer-facing claims, reference images or tech pack, quantities by variation, branding requirements and destination market.
Does a supplier certificate prove a finished-garment claim?+
Not on its own. The evidence needs to be checked against the exact material, processing route, product and supply-chain scope of the order.
Why is a sample part of sustainability due diligence?+
A sample lets the buyer assess the selected material and components in the actual garment, while also creating an approval reference for the product programme.
